Selina Akter developed a love for art at an early age. She obtained her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, at the University of Denver ,Colorado. She received several awards including “Honorable Mention” at the CU Denver Juried Student Show, Emmanuel Gallery in 2014 selected by juror Jacquelyn Connolly, “Second Place” at Coors Light South Plate River Feast arranged by REI and Greenway Foundation in 2014, and Community College of Denver President’s Award in 2010 for her work ‘Self-portrait.’ Best Fashion Designer, Daily Prothom Alo, leading daily newspaper in Bangladesh, Annual Holiday fashion design contest in 1999 and 2000. She has also participated in several solo and group art exhibitions in Bangladesh, in Colorado, Monroe, Louisiana and North Carolina - Including solo exhibition at the British Council, Bangladesh in 2001 and Group exhibition at the NEXT gallery in 2011. CU Denver BFA Thesis Exhibition at Redline Gallery, Denver, CO in 2015. Downtown Gallery Crawl and open studio at Upstairs and Big Room Gallery, Monroe, LA in 2015 to 2018. Selina also attend a collaboration show ‘Common Ground ‘at Masur Museum of Art at Monroe, La in 2018. Participate jury show at Cary Art gallery and at The Carrack Modern Art. She is a member of Durham Art Guild.

Her works are an attempt to explore her dreams and hopes that she experiences through her eyes and mind from living in two totally different cultures; her native land where she grew up and the Western culture in which she is now living.
